How To Keep Your Dish Drainer Free of Bacteria

How to thoroughly clean your dish drainer. How to clean bacteria and germs from growing on your dish drainer.

When you think about bacteria do you think about your dish drainer? Probably not, but since it is an area that is wet very often it is a perfect area for germs and bacteria to grow. Just think you are putting your freshly washed dishes over a virtual bed of bacteria.  No need to worry though, if you give you dish drainer a good cleaning once or twice a week you will really cut down on the amount of bacteria it has.  Here is the best way to clean your dish drainer to kill germs and bacteria.

Supplies

A clean sink

hot water

dish washing detergent

vinegar

toothbrush or other small kitchen scrub brush.

Cleanser with bleach added

rubber gloves if you are sensitive

Thoroughly clean out your sink. Then fill it with hot soapy water using your dish washing detergent as you filling it up add 1/4 up vinegar to the water.

Place your dish drainer in the soapy water and allow it to soak for 30 minutes. If it all won't fit in at the same time soak half for 1/2 hour and then turn it and soak the other half for a half hour. You should soak the bottom piece catches all the water that  as well. In fact you might want to clean this area even more often.

After it has soaked for the appropriate amount of time, remove it from the water, and sprinkle some Cleanser that is made that contains bleach on to the drainer doing a small portion at a time. Take your tooth brush and use it to scrub every single area of the dish drainer.

Thoroughly rinse the dish drainer with the hottest water you can tolerate. Place it upside down on a clean dry towel and place the underlining mat up side ways and allow them to dry.

To keep the dish drainer clean run it under hot water every night before washing dishes. If you want to get it dry without using a towel place it outside during the peak time of the afternoon sun (between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM to dry.

Note:  If the water catching matt underneath has any cracks in it it is time to get a new one. That crack is an invitation for all types of germs and bacteria to get in to.

Note:  If you don't have the cleanser with bleach use baking soda.
